Ms. Eva Mae Backey was born on July 27, 1949 in Fargo, Georgia to the late Darnell and Letha Marshall. She attended the local schools in Georgia and graduated from Clinch County High. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida and was employed with Bellsouth for 30 years and worked faithfully as a Customer Service Representative and Drafting Clerk.
Ms. Eva Backey was a faithful member at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, she was a great leader serving on the Deaconess Board, Church School Supt., Church Clerk, Finance Committee, Church School Teacher, and many other leadership roles within the church. She loved to sing and served as the Choir and Song Leader. One of her favorite songs she led was “What is This”. She loved her church and was active, the love and devotion she had for Jesus Christ was reflected by the love and devotion that she always showed to her family and everyone she touched.
Ms. Eva Mae Backey was preceded in death by her parents: Darnell and Letha Marshall; 2 sisters, 4 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted children: Sophia Core Ragland (Joseph), Talmadge Core, Octavia Bordes-Kohn (Joseph), Brian Core (Stacy); sister: Essie Addison; brother: Frank Marshall; brother-in-law: Eddie Williams; special friends: Evelyn Kinlaw, Darlene Jones, Annie Norris, Faye Diamond, Mother Jean Smith, Marva Wade, God Mother Julia Williams. Special cousin James “Pig” Marshall; niece she took in as her own Donnetta Marshall; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
