Elder Roosevelt Thomas, Sr. was born on February 12, 1932 to James and Alzona Thomas in Cochran, Georgia. He relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he continued his early education from the Duval County Public Schools and later was drafted in the United States Army for the Korean War. He was preceded by the passing of both parents; two brothers and one sister.
In 1955, he married Sister Fannie M. Thomas and to that union was born two daughters and three sons. Elder Thomas was baptized in The Pentecostal Church or God in 1962. He was later ordained a Deacon; thereafter, an ordained Elder and was a faithful worker with the Bishop's Staff. Over the years he served as Pastor of Jacksonville, Orlando, Gainesville, Live Oak and Lake City, Florida. He was a strong member of the Church's Brotherhood. In his messages, Elder Thomas would let you know that Jesus is a very present help in the time of need.
Elder Thomas passed away, Saturday, September 10, 2016. He will always be remembered by his loving wife of 61 years, Sister Fannie Thomas; three sons, Roosevelt Thomas, Jr., Kenneth (Lydia) Thomas of Fort Worth, Texas and Larry Thomas of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two daughters, Vivian Chambliss and Annette Bardge; twelve grandchildren, Vontrice Thomas, Adrian (Altonya) Thomas, Tiffany McNair of Orlando, Florida, Kevin D. Bardge of Charlotte, North Carolina, Crystal (Gary) Ellington of Port Orange, Florida, Brittany Thomas, Treydair Thomas, Keith Thomas, Janai Thomas, Ijaia Thomas, Sanai Thomas and Precious Thomas; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Geneva Sams of Cochran, Georgia, Lilly Mae Sams of Atlanta, Georgia and Sarah (Harace) Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; extended family of The Pentecostal Church of God and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
