Betty Jean Harris

July 6, 1934 ~ May 20, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Betty Jean Harris entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St Vincent Hospital Jacksonville Florida. She was born in Abbeville, Georgia on July 6 1934 to the late Mr. Thomas Sr. and Deortha Staley.

Confessing Christ at an early age, Betty became a member of Mt Zuma Baptist Church where she served faithfully until moving to Camden, New Jersey and became president of the usher board at First Refugee Baptist for many years. There she met the late Mr. Johnny Harris. She remained a dedicated wife until the Lord called him home.

Betty was a loving person, with a dynamic smile no one could resist. She loved to travel, shop, socialize and cook. She never met a stranger she couldn’t talk with. Betty spent the majority of her adult life in New Jersey until she decided to travel back and made Jacksonville her home. Betty joined Philippi Missionary Baptist where she remained until the Lord called her home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all those who knew her.  

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Thomas Lee Staley Sr. and Deortha Staley; a brother Thomas Staley Jr. and sister Julia Horns.

Betty leaves her legacy of love and caring to her family, her devoted and caring siblings, Louise Jackson, Patricia Wilson (Charles deceased),Santa Clara, Ca., The late Thomas Staley Jr.  Ivan James Staley, Gwendolyn Davis (James) Huntsville, Al., Gloria Wilson (Charles) , Kenneth Staley ( Morine) Keoti, Ks.,  5 god daughters, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  other loving  family members and caring friends.
