Obituary

Royce was born on January 23, 1963 to loving parents Mary Mills Glens and Retired Chief Petty Officer William Howard Glens, who both predeceased him. He was the youngest of eight children and a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL. Royce became a member of Moncrief Baptist Church as a child. He prayed often and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age. Royce attended local schools and graduated from Roffler Hair Design School. He spent over 20 years producing Fashion Shows all over the country with nationally renowned models and stylists. he was not producing or announcing at fashion shows, he was often known to strut the runway in a manner that could only be done by him, “The Producer,” the name in which he was affectionately known by. He was the designated emcee for high end fashion stores like Phil’s Shoe Store, Gayfer’s Department Store (now Belk’s) and the Young Men’s Shop. In his heyday, he sponsored hundreds of parties for Jacksonville’s elite. Party goers could delight in delectable dishes prepared by Mr. Glens himself. Royce Mallory Glens departed this life on September 15, 2022 following a long courageous battle with cancer. Royce was also predeceased in death by his big brother Dwight Walton. He is survived by a devoted nephew Travis McAffee Cotton; his one and only sister Joyce M. Thomas (Clarence); brothers: John A. Walton, Jr. (Gloria), Barry A. Walton Glens, David C. King, Dennis C. King, Howard Collis Glens, (Gloria) and Larry Jenkins Walton; Sister-in-Law Honorable Leatrice Williams Walton. Additionally, he leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, godchildren and many friends.
