Mary Davis Obituary

Mary Lee Bevel Davis was the first of six children born in Jacksonville, FL to the late Mr. John and Mrs. Leila Bevel on October 27, 1943. However, from a lap baby, Mary was raised by her paternal grandparents, Mr. Tom and Mrs. Annie Bevel in Live Oak, Florida. Mary attended the public school of Suwannee County, graduating with her class from New Douglass High School in 1961. Her very best friend from kindergarten, Annie Myrtle Richardson Herring, was also in that class. The two remained close friends until Mary’s death. As a baptized believer, Mary attended Ebenezer African Methodist Church in Live Oak until she departed after marrying her high school sweetheart, Russell Davis. The two had two sons: Brian and Russell III. Eventually, Mary returned to Florida and settled here in Jacksonville where she attended St. Paul AME Church until her health failed. She was also employed by the Duval County Public School System as a cafeteria worker until her retirement.

Mary is Preceded in death by her son, Brian Davis (Jacksonville, FL); her brother, Robert Bevel (Jacksonville, FL); and her sisters, Martha Bevel (Jacksonville, FL), and Norma Jean Somerset (Miami, FL).

Mary leaves the following to cherish her memory; Her son, Russell L. Davis III (Albuquerque, NM); her Granddaughter, Raquel Davis (Albuquerque, NM); her Great Grands, Tiannah Davis (Albuquerque, NM) and Jayce Davis (Albuquerque, NM); her Siblings, Larry Bevel (Orlando, FL), John Bevel Jr. (Jacksonville, FL), Annie Jean Weathers (Orlando, FL); her cousins, Jean Salisbury (Jacksonville, FL), Roosevelte Salisbury (Jacksonville, FL), and Mikel Salisbury (Jacksonville, FL); and her Niece and Nephews, Denise Gardner (Jacksonville, FL), Bobby Somerset (Jacksonville, FL) and Larry Bevel Jr (Jacksonville, FL).
