Josie was the only child born to Will and Ella Ellis on May 2, 1929 in Backerton, Georgia. She and her family moved to St. Augustine when she was very young. There she was educated in the public schools in the area. She later moved to Jacksonville. After marrying, she became the mother of two daughters, Josie and Marie.
She became a member of the Church of God in Christ Temple at an early age under the pastorage of Bishop Wales R. Nesbitt, Sr. She worked in various areas of the Church, locally, district, and jurisdictional. Among them are: Choir President, District Missionary, Church Secretary, Jurisdictional Sunday School Secretary, Women’s Christian Council, etc.
In the late afternoon hours of Monday, March 30th, Jesus took His own hand and wiped away her tears, and He smoothed the furrows from her face and the angels sang a little song, and Jesus rocked her in His arms, and kept saying: “Take your rest, Josie, take your rest. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Josie and Marie; one son-in-law, Al; three grandchildren, Maurice, Josie, and Marvin; one granddaughter-in-law: Amanda; one grandson-in-law: Kevin; five great-grandchildren: Kyra, Brianna, Destiny, Chanyse, and Aaliyah; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
