Doretha Brown Battle was born January 3, 1956. She was raised in Roanoke, Rapids, North Carolina. She was the seventh of eight children born to the late Hurley and Mable Brown.
She received her education in Halifax County public schools of North Carolina, graduating the Class of 1974 from Northwestern High School. She was a faithful member of Ashley Grove until she moved to Jacksonville, Florida in August of 1979. Doretha was well known for her bright smile, willingness to help others, and unwavering faith in Christ. Of all the acts of kindness and success she accumulated, becoming a mother was her greatest joy. She enjoyed crocheting, singing in the choir, being with family, and travelling often until her change in mobility. Although she encountered sickness which she was unable to recover from she never lost her joy or faith in her Savior. Doretha Battle lived her life in a manner proclaiming daily the scriptures of Daniel 3:17-18 knowing that her God could deliver her but even if he didn't she would still serve Him only! She was a member of Greater Missionary Baptist Church for many years pastored by Reverend J.C Green. On Friday October 30th, God called Doretha and offered her complete healing and she accepted.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children Tiffany Battle, Jonetha Battle, Dornesha Battle, Jonathan Battle, and Goddaughter Jasmine Williams-Hollinghead (Nicholas).
