Vernell Griggs Addo Obituary Vernell Nolton Griggs entered this journey through parents Margaret and Zebdie Nolton, Jr., in Dooling, Ga. Little did these parents know the greatness their baby girl would hold. The family relocated to New Jersey during the second half of the great migration. She attended public schools in Jersey. Vernells faith was built up in her early years via her family upbringing. Vernell relocated to Florida after graduating high school. She attended several churches before making One Church of Jacksonville her home for 3 decades. She was employed with Medtronics, an engineering company, for over 2 decades, until she retired. As we gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, whom we all cherished in our own individual way, we give thanks for each moment we shared with her. Vernell never met a stranger; she was truly blessed and highly favored. She embraced every moment in life, whether it was spending time with family, caring for others, traveling the world, or simply relaxing while listening to her favorite rhythm and blues songs. She was fully committed to enjoying life. Vernell expressed her love for family and friends not just through words but also through meaningful actions. Her unique kindness helped mend relationships during tough times or when disagreements arose. Her upbringing in the North nurtured her entrepreneurial skills, leading to several successful ventures. On Saturday, November 16th, 2024, the Lord called Vernell home to rest and spend eternity with Him. Vernell is survived by former husband Johnnie L. Griggs, by her loyal brother Larry Nolton, dedicated god sister Latrice (Overseer B.E.) Williams, splendid daughters Kenisha Blount and Johnel (Vince) Robinson, and stepchildren Teresa and Johnny Griggs. grandchildren Akili (Dajuan) Brown, Azana Mixson, Ajani Blount, Kinsley Parker, Kaden Robinson, and Verity Robinson, and an upcoming great-grandson. We must include her special sister/cousin Gail Graham, for whom Vernell was the constant water that extinguished Gails intrusions. Vernell will also be remembered by a multitude of cousins, nieces/nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded by her fond spouse, Emmauel Addo. Vernell serves as the glue that keeps our family united, and it's important to share that legacy with the next generations. Vernell often said to treat each other kindly, as we only have one life to live, so we should cherish it.
