Valerie Joyce Barnes

November 18, 1967 — June 7, 2024

Valerie Barnes Obituary Sister Valerie Joyce Barnes was born in Jacksonville, FL to the late Brenda Bellamy, who, unfortunately, due to certain mishaps, was too young to raise a baby. She called on her late uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Mary Barnes, to ensure that her daughter would be raised properly. Valerie was adopted and raised in the Northside area of Jacksonville, better known as "The Bottom". Valerie attended the local public schools of Jacksonville and graduated from William M. Raines Senior High School, Class of 85. She later attended Jones College where she was on the Deans List as a Medical Assistant. She then furthered her education by attending Florida Community College Jacksonville (FCCJ). Valerie was united in Holy matrimony to Erroll Moody and to this union, a daughter, Cierra Moody was born. Facing many challenges, she continued to raise her only child until she met the man who would father her second child. Gods grace and mercy continued to bless Valerie as she raised another daughter as a single parent. In 2011, Valerie was diagnosed with kidney disease. As struggles became challenges, Valerie continued to fight the good fight of faith and pressed on. After 23 years of service with the City of Jacksonville as a Clerk of the Court, Valerie decided to retire in March of 2023 to take life one day at a time. She would often say, "Its about my five grandbabies". In April 2023, Valerie decided to write out her obituary to inform people that she lived a legacy. She made huge impressions on young people. They often referred to her as "Auntie Val" at work, church, and in her neighborhood. Valerie was a friend to many. She is now at peace; God called Sister Barnes home on June 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Barnes. Left to cherish her life and precious memories are her daughters, Cierra and Carla, grandchildren, Keith, Jr., JeSauria, Keilahni, Avery, and Kylie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
