Mrs. Thelma J. Thompson was born on July 10, 1926 in Valdosta, Georgia to Step-father, Anthony and Theresa Johnson, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Thompson attended public schools in Valdosta, Georgia.
Ms. Thompson retired in 1993 as a custodian after 35 years of service from Duval County Public Schools at Pine Estates Elementary School.
Mrs. Thompson joined the Little Rock Baptist Church over 50 years ago under the leadership of the late Rev. W.C. Mitchell, where she served faithfully as a member of Choir #2, District #1, W. C. Mitchell Club, Senior Missionary Ministry, Deaconess Board, Director of Choir #3(youth), Sunday School Teacher, Director BTU & Youth Department. She also served with former Pastors Rev. R. Murray, Rev. Levi White, the late Rev. W. H. Mack and Rev. Alexie Kelly. She moved her membership in 2004 to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Rev. Anthony Jackson, Pastor. She loved the hymns and spirituals of the church and one of her favorite mottos was "Only what you do for Christ will last and will be counted in the end."
She worked faithfully with East Florida and Bethany Baptist Association for many years as a Youth Counselor and the Progressive Missionary & Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida, Inc. where she served as a Youth Counselor/Assistant Finance Coordinator for the Youth Department under the late Ms. Hattie Alexander, Director.
She was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Joseph I. Thompson; one child; sister, Minnie T. Morrison; brothers, Alphonzo Jackson, Leonard Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Jr., Frank Johnson Sr. and God daughter, Ms. Patricia Graham .
She leaves to cherish her memories, sister, Mrs. Ethel Mae Collier(Napoleon) of Jacksonville, Florida; adopted children, Erikka King, Teresa Thomas(Isaac), Tuketa Johnson and Phyllis Wilson, all of Jacksonville, Florida and Billy Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia; Special nephew and nieces, Anthony Jackson(Harriett), Evangeline Yvette Jackson(Timothy) of Jacksonville, Florida and Shirley Wilson of the Virgin Island; host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins; God-daughters, Mrs. Shirley Hendley, Ms. Sandra Jones, special caretakers Susan, Marilyn and Citizen at Signature Health Care of Jacksonville and many sorrowing friends.
