It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Slena Teresa Moody, age 66, who went home to glory on September 15th, 2025. Born on October 29, 1958, to Joseph Lewis and Aretha Lewis-Haywood, Slena was a proud native of Jacksonville, Florida. She completed her education at Andrew Jackson Sr. High School, graduating in the class of 1976. Slena dedicated many years to working at Winn Dixie Stores before pursuing her passion in healthcare with certified CNA training.
Slena’s journey of faith began at an early age, as she committed her life to Christ in 1976. Her spiritual path led her to become an integral member of the Church of the Acts, where under the guidance of Reverend Alvin and Pastor Robbie Hansley, she became an awe-inspiring vessel of God's love. She served the church in numerous capacities, sharing the word of God and spreading unconditional love to all she encountered.
As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend, Slena embodied love and compassion. Her warmth, loyalty, and integrity shone brightly throughout her life, and she was a source of encouragement to everyone around her. Slena spoke and stood as a woman of dignity, serving as a beacon of hope until her last breath.
She is survived by her loving husband, Freddie Lee Moody; her cherished child, Freddie Lee Sanders; and her beloved grandchildren, Mishael Sanders, Arquella Laster, Trenyce Burns, R’kel Laster, Iyonna Sanders, and Yara Martin. Slena's legacy extends to her siblings, Henrietta J. Hooker (Vincent), Mamie L. Alexander, and Joseph Thomas Lewis, Jr (Jackie), along with her dear nieces Marva Alexander, Victoria Hooker, Crystal Hooker (Alsadra), Angel Hall (Matthew), and nephew Fred Lee Alexander Jr (Latrese). She is also remembered fondly by her uncle Johnny B Green, her best friend Carolyn Johnson, and a host of family and friends.
Though Slena has departed from this earthly realm, the cherished memories we hold dear will keep her spirit alive in our hearts. She will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire us all. It has truly been a great blessing and an honor to have had Slena in our lives.
