Mr. Larry Franklin Mathews

Mr. Larry Franklin Mathews was born on January 16, 1947. He transitioned from this earthly dwelling on Sunday, March 31, 2013at 4:20AM, while at St. Vincent's South Hospital, after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida. Larry graduated from New Stanton Sr. High School in 1964. He was amongst the first five African Americans to attend the University of Florida in the fall of 1964. He went on to receive a Bachelors in Business Administration from Edward Waters College in 1970, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He then pursued a career with the Jacksonville Fire Department. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Julia Mathews, along with his adopted brother, Ricky Satterwhite. He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Larette D. Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister, Ms. Sonja Mathews Sprott; four nephews; Shawn, Edward (Teddy), Jason, and Charles Sprott; in addition to his long time friend/confidant, Drunell Manle, and a host of other relatives and faithful friends.
