Mary Daniels Obituary Mary Lee Shaw Daniels, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully transitioned from this life at the age of 90. Mary was born in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Thomas and Lila Shaw on June 30, 1934, and spent her life enriching the lives of all who knew her. She passed away in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 5, 2025. Mary was a remarkable woman who dedicated over 50 years of her life to the culinary arts as a cook and sous chef, feeding countless people with love and skill. She was known for her talent in the kitchen, a craft that brought joy to both her family and the community. After leaving Waycross, Georgia, she lived in Miami, Florida, for a time but spent many years of her life in Charleston, South Carolina, before relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, where she made her home for the last 15 years. In addition to her love of cooking, Mary had a passion for relaxation and entertainment. She enjoyed the heartwarming stories and nostalgic charm of Hallmark movies and old TV shows, and after mastering YouTube, she enjoyed numerous types of cooking shows. She also loved game shows, relishing the thrill of trivia and competition from the comfort of her home. Mary Lee could often be found sharpening her mind by playing sudoku, word puzzles, or solitaire, a pastime she thoroughly enjoyed. These simple pleasures brought her great joy and helped keep her sharp, even in her later years. She was a social soul, enjoying time spent with friends at senior centers in both Charleston and Jacksonville, which she affectionately referred to as her "school." Her love for people and her vibrant personality made her a cherished presence in any room. In 2011, Mary joined Deland Missionary Baptist Church, where she became a faithful and dedicated member. Her devotion to her church and church family was unwavering. Even when illness prevented her from attending services, she remained connected by listening to live services and participating in Bible study over the phone. Mary Lee reached the esteemed position of 'Mother of the Church,' which was an honor reflecting her, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Her love for God and her church family will be remembered as a testament to her strength and faith. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Peggy Shaw Farmer, and her two brothers, Johnny Thomas Shaw (J.T.) and Thomas Shaw, Jr. (Junior). She was also predeceased by her two sons, Melvin Daniels and Juan Chris Farmer, and her oldest daughter, Lena Shaw Anderson. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her surviving family: a loving and devoted daughter, Jeanette Shaw Thomas; daughters Daphne Bell and Glenda Price; sons Emmanuel Glen Daniels (Jeanette), Robin Gaylord Daniels, Tyrone Shaw (Sabrina), and Michael Daniels; sisters Cathrine Shaw Freeman (Ronnie) and Janie Shaw Byrd; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a loving community of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Mary Lees warmth, wisdom, wit, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
