Madlyn Hogan Obituary Madlyn Elaine Hogan, 60, passed away in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on August 28, 1963 to Samuel Alonzo Hogan and Effie Louise Hogan. Madlyn was always referred to as a "good baby" with a quietness that continued well into adult hood. Madlyn lovingly called "Mat" accepted Jesus Christ at a young age. She was baptized at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church by the late Rev. William C. Barker. She attended church school and church faithfully. Madlyn served in the Youth Choir. She attended public schools in Jacksonville, FL and graduated from Jean Ribault High School. Madlyn had a lot of school spirit and participated in various activities including R.O.T.C. where she served on the drill team. It came as no surprise when Madlyn announced she would be joining the U.S. Navy leaving home shortly after high school graduation. Madlyn served in the Navy for over a decade and toured in Honolulu, HI, Sydney Australia and Seattle, WA.where her career ended with an honorable discharge. After leaving the military Madlyn returned home to Jacksonville and to Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist church. Madlyns employment includes Security and School Crossing guard (Duval County School Board). She would later earn a Bachelors Degree from Everest College with the assistance of the G.I. Bill. Madlyn was preceded in death by her father, Dea. Samuel Hogan. She would often refer to herself as "a daddys girl" and yes, we all agreed. She was a devoted daughter. Our hearts were filled with sadness and disbelief when we received the news of Madlyns passing. Mourning but standing on Gods promises she leaves her devoted mother, Effie Louise Hogan; two sisters, Marian and Joanna (Clifford); one niece, Takiriah Cotton and one nephew Dwayne Cotton; along with a host of relatives and friends.
