Joe Williams was born on May 24th, 1937 in Barnwell, South Carolina to the late Angus and Lizzie Mae Williams. He was raised in South Carolina and attended the local schools there. He later moved to Jacksonville, Florida at an early age to pursue a career in the automotive industry. He loved cars and would go on to become a well-respected entrepreneur in this field for over 30 years. Joe gave his life to Christ many years ago and was a member of Brown Chapel Methodist Church in Kline, SC., which later merged with Macedonia CME Church in Allendale, South Carolina. Once here in Jacksonville he attended St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ernie Murray for several years. He loved to sing gospel hymns, cooking, watching football and spending countless hours with his family and friends. One of Joe's many joys included traveling to South Carolina to visit his family members. He was married to the late Lorrene Cohen- Williams a union that would bare 8 children. Joe loved his family and often spoke fondly of them. His golden locket was his daughter Yvonne, as she held the key to his heart. Joe was very young at heart and was very much a jokester. Joe married Sara Morgan on February 17th, 1989. They had 26 loving years of wedded bliss together. Joe was a loving and irreplaceable father to Sara's daughter, Lashawnda. Sara was his world and he loved her very much. The three of them were inseparable; you'd rarely see one without the other. Preceding him in death was his son, Joe Reed Williams, Jr.; siblings, Dorothy Smith (NYC), Herman Aaron Jr.(CA), Leon Daniels(Pine Bluff, AR), Rosa Lee Holman(Barnwell, SC), Mary Robinson(Cincinnati, Ohio),Eleanor Scott (St. Petersburg, Fl.) and Herman Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.). Joe accepted the call of eternal rest on November 6, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Sara Williams; daughters, Joe Anne Williams, Yvonne Williams McRae, Debra Nadine Holmes (Lamar), Loretta Williams (Will), Angie Marie Lovings (Ronnell) and Lashawnda Ziegler-Newman (Vernon); sons, Lewis, Frederick, Lorenzo and Daniel Lamar Williams; sisters, Queen E .Creech, Anna Williams, Shirley Daniels, Marie McCants, Annette Woods and Ernestine Benjamin, all of NYC Jeanette Farmer, Rhoda Washington(Bennie), Ruth Wodajo, Lily B (Johnnie)Reed and Mary Jenkins all from South Carolina; brothers, Angus (Marie) Williams Jr., Thomas (Katha) and Howard Williams all of Barnwell, SC. Joe leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and lifetime friends, Solomon Battle and Matt Moody.
