Imogene Chasteen Adams

May 7, 1929 — November 19, 2014

Imogene C. Adams, 84, passed away November 19, 2014 after a short illness. A long time resident of the Miami, Florida area, She was born on May 7, 1929 to Henry and Mae Adams. Mrs. Adams - Jean, as everyone called her - worked at many different jobs, including a long career in the retail industry and management of a family business. She was equally at home working on her car or even driving a dump truck if the occasion demanded. Mrs. Adams moved to Jacksonville in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, which destroyed her residence in Homestead, Florida in 1992. After relocating here, she remained at Cathedral Towers, where she developed many new friendships that sustained her over the years. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and also did volunteer work at Cathedral Care. Mrs. Adams was a fiercely independent person who, reflecting her formative years in south Florida, was at home with people from all walks of life and cultures. Although she suffered from both limited mobility and failing vision at the end of her life, she never let this get in the way of her activities, and she reached out to other people with low vision and shared her determination to carry on with life. Her friends will remember her as someone who was always active and always willing to get involved. "In our Lifetime She was everything that you could imagine that our Mother could be." Mrs. Adams is predeceased by her brother, Earl, who died as a result of injuries sustained in World War II. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Sandra) and James (Tina) Adams, a daughter, Patti (Keith) Woodside, and numerous grandchildren. Other surviving family members include Samuel T. (Tom) Adams, and her cousins, David Chasteen, James (Jimmy) Chasteen, and Milton Hays, Jr. A short memorial service for Mrs. Adams will be held in the garden of the St. Johns Cathedral (date and time to be announced), with a remembrance of her life to be conducted at the Cathedral Care center on January 15th, 2015.
