Cynthia Elaine Gamble-Henderson, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called home to glory on Friday, August 15, 2025. She was born on October 5, 1958, and lived a blessed 66 years. She was the cherished daughter of the late Roosevelt Gamble Sr., and Maxine Gamble.
Cynthia was educated in the public schools of Duval County and graduated with the Jean Ribault High School Class of 1976. She continued her education at Florida A&M University.
Following her studies, in 1975, Cynthia met Kenneth R. Smith, and on December 31, 1977, they were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Shevalia Elaine, in 1979. One of her greatest joys was being a mother and grandmother. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a faithful member of Bethesda Temple Worship Center under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Roosevelt R. Gamble III. Cynthia served diligently as a Missionary of Helps and on the Usher Board. She devoted much of her time after work and many Saturdays assisting others with grocery shopping, paying bills, and even volunteering at hospice and nursing homes, to cleaning the church.
Cynthia began a distinguished 33-year career with the U.S. Government, faithfully serving as a supervisor at the Kings Bay NAS JAX military base until her retirement. She was also an avid runner in marathon racing events. While working at Kings Bay, Cynthia met Calvin Henderson in 1994. Their friendship grew into marriage in 1998, a union that continued until 2006.
Cynthia will be remembered for her laughter, a zeal for life, her love for her family, and her God. God makes no mistakes. He looked down from Heaven and saw that Cynthia’s soul was tired and weary.
He then took a look at her record and saw her dedication and faithfulness, and he decided to bring her home to paradise to stay; leaving an everlasting impression that her family can walk in her absence.
Cynthia Elaine Gamble-Henderson departed this life to begin her eternal life with her Heavenly Father on Friday, August 15th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents: the late Roosevelt Gamble, Sr. and Maxine Gamble; siblings: Samuel Gamble Sr., Angela Gamble-Mosley, and Arnold Gamble; nephews: Roosevelt Gamble IV and Samuel Gamble Jr.
Cynthia’s life was dedicated to caring, sharing, and helping others, but her greatest gift was giving.
