With humbled hearts and abiding faith in God’s will, we celebrate the life of Andrew “Drew” Sims Jr., who suddenly transitioned to eternal rest on July 10, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 42.
Drew was born on October 22, 1982, to Reverend Andrew Sims Sr. and Emma Simmons Sims, both of whom survive him. From his earliest days, Drew was a joyful spirit, a loving son, and a light to all who knew him. He was raised in a faith-filled home and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. His faith would remain a quiet but steady foundation throughout his life.
Drew’s earthly blessings were his children, Empriss James and Andrew Sims III, both of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his siblings: Marques Graham (Jacksonville, FL) and Andre Perry ( Zenobia) (Summerville, SC)
Drew came from a large, close-knit family. He was surrounded by the love of many aunts and uncles, including: Rosetta Sims Luke (Yulee, FL), Sandra Priscilla Mosley (William) (Union, NJ), Marion Sims III (Dauphne) (Loves Park, IL), Deborah Brooks (Augusta, GA), Vernon Sims Sr. (Bridgette) (Rockford, IL), Frederick Sims (Irene) (Streamwood, IL), Vergie Brown (William) (Bennetts Point, SC), Willie Axson (Jacksonville, FL) and Inez Axson (Jacksonville, FL); He was also blessed to know his great-aunt, Estella Justice of Charleston, SC. Andrew Jr. leaves a host of cousins and wonderful friends.
Drew was employed with Flowers Bakery where his vibrant personality made him unforgettable. You couldn’t be in his presence without him making you laugh. His humor, wit, and unique way of viewing the world brought joy to everyone around him. He also enjoyed watching crime shows and gathering with loved ones and friends to cook and grill good food.
He was an unshakable Jacksonville Jaguars fan, and a diehard Los Angeles Lakers supporter—win or lose, he was riding with his teams.
One of his greatest joys was reverently calling his mother “Ma Dukes” and his father “Pops”, a tribute to the deep love and respect he carried for them throughout his life. Though we grieve deeply, we rejoice in knowing that he is now resting in the arms of the Lord, where there is no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more night.
Andrew Jr’s legacy is one of laughter, loyalty, and love. Though he left us too soon, his spirit lives on through the lives he touched. His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him!
