Alfredo S. Grant

Alfredo Stiles "Butch" Grant was born July 31, 1948 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Owen Grant, Sr. and Thelma Love. He passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Eatontown, NJ of cardiovascular disease. He attended Matthew W. Gilbert High School in Jacksonville, FL. He accepted Christ at an early age where he was baptized in the Baptist church. He worked in asphalt construction for over 20 years retiring in 1990. Butch enjoyed writing songs where he had one patented. He met and married Carolyn Bowers on April 22, 1967 and they had six children. Their second son, Alfredo Lowjuan (Butchie) Grant passed away on September 13, 1981. Big Butch was also preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; Patricia Priscilla Mills, Deborah Woolbright, Angeline Walker, and Brenda Love; and, his in-laws, Simmie, Sr. and Louise Kennedy Bowers. He leaves his memories to be cherished by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Grant. Three sons, James, Sytyreey and Tarjah Grant (Eatontown, NJ); three daughters Lee Grant Starks (Augusta, GA), K. Grant (Eatontown, NJ) and Vereen Colbert (Long Branch, NJ). Three sisters, Velma Williams (Jacksonville, FL), Frances Clark (Tacoma, WA), and Rosa (Conrad) Davis (Conway, SC), and one brother, Owen "Red" Grant (Jacksonville, FL). Three grandchildren: Jasmine Starks (Augusta, GA), Rafael Tejada, Jr. and Alichia Leon (Long Branch, NJ). Brothers and sisters-in-law: Simmie Bowers, Jr., Nathaniel Bowers, Sr., Joyce (Anthony) Hammond, Shirley Bowers, Winifred (Vonzel, Sr.) Henry (all of Jacksonville, FL); Valerie (Edwin Sr.) Pratt (College Park, MD), Diana Bowers (Henrico, VA). He will be missed and remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
