JANET MARIE ORR-JACKSON, transitioned peacefully, with her daughter at her side, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
JANET was the sixth child out of seven born to the late Sgt. Clarence Eugene Orr and Dona Pearl-Quarles Orr at the old Louisville General Hospital on March 13, 1958. Her only son, Andre G. Jackson, Jr., brother, Darryl Eugene Orr, three older sisters, Linda Lynette Orr, Brenda Yvette Orr, and Sharon Elaine Orr-Campbell preceded her in death.
JANET professed her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age at Centennial Olivet Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Reverend William F. Wilson. She sung in the Sunbeam Children’s Choir, the Junior Choir, and the Mass Choir. She enjoyed attending BTU, Sunday School, Saturday Youth Activities and any other services offered at the church. When she was chosen to assist, she did it eagerly and with a smile.
JANET was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School furthering her education at Jefferson Community College and University of Phoenix with majors in Corrections and Business Administration. That knowledge led to advocating for inmates at the Jefferson County Corrections Department. This position allowed her to establish a relationship with Judges and Attorneys. She accepted a position with the Jefferson County Housing Authority of Louisville managing over 600 units in The Parkhill Housing Projects. She established a family-like environment with the residents and offered her assistance when and where it was needed.
After the death of her father, she decided to relocate to his birthplace of Jacksonville, Florida with her son and daughter. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by his family members to ensure a smooth transition for her and the children.
JANET joined Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Darrell Gilyard, Sr. She was active in several ministries and well-liked by her church family. She offered her educational expertise when and where needed.
She enjoyed getting her Florida family together at her home for dinner and enjoyed cooking. She was a lot like her father. She wouldn’t eat, but cooked a countertop full of food only to give it away at the end of the evening.
JANET leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Eugenia Estelle Jackson; two sisters, Donna Eileen Orr and Malissa Kaye Orr, both of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Kendrick Jackson and Zakiya Beyah, Jacksonville, Fl.; nieces, Dona Malissa Orr, Louisville, KY, Donthello Lynette Scott, Jacksonville, Fl., Marissa Huckleberry and her namesake, Doneen An'Janet Orr, of Louisville, KY; Uncles: Dr. Booker Carver Peek (Annette), Oberlin, Ohio and Marshall Qualls, Louisville, KY; grand nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and close friends.
